 | | A Short History The Victorian Game Fishing Club was formed by five friends, at the time all members of the A.N.S.A. club, the Peninsula Sports Fishing Club. After "discovering " a place called Bermagui on the New South Wales south coast they decided a Blue Water club would suit their needs. So in July 1974 the Victorian Game Fishing Club was born.Going from strength to strength with a growing membership the club purchased it's own premises in December 1982. The clubrooms, located at 186 Station Street, Edithvale, have been brought up to their present standards through the efforts of successive committees and, of course the club membership that has grown to around 300. | | | | | | | Social Although the Victorian Game Fishing Club is first and foremost a fishing club, it holds various social functions throughout the year both at the clubrooms and other venues. Highlights are the annual sailpast to mark the beginning of our season and our annual Presentation Dinner at the end of the season. Golf days are also looked forward to by members and their guests. | | | | | | | Tournaments Club tournaments were held in local waters initially with members fishing all the Victorian "Hot Spots". The club held it's first South Eastern Invitation Gamefish Tournament at Bermagui in 1979. This tournament has been held every year since and has grown to be on of the most significant tournaments on the Australian fishing calendar. 2001 saw a change in title to The Southern Gamefish Classic. Victorian fishing is represented through the Three Way Challenge, held annually since 1977 and the Victorian Gamefish Classic, formerly the Victorian Open Invitation Gamefish Tournament inaugurated in 1982. The Victoria Shield is hotly contested at the VGC | | | View Larger Map | | |
