The Victorian Game Fishing Club is a family oriented fishing club with a vision to achieve an environment that will encourage present and future generations of anglers to value and appreciate the benefits of membership of a vibrant game fishing club.
The club was formed almost 40 years ago by a group of men who were keen to try there luck against pelagics that were strictly the domain of the professional angler. With basic equipment, ingenuity and determination they formed the great club we have today.
General meetings take place at the clubrooms, 186 Station St. Edithvale from 7:30pm on the 1st Wednesday of each month with the exception of January. All are welcome.
Dear fellow anglers,
This Presidents report is being typed in the departure lounge at Kuala Lumpur's International Airport as I wait for my connecting flight to Phuket. As I write this I contemplate how lucky we are as anglers to live in this day and age. Not only our fantastic technologies at hand that aid us in landing the big one such as sounders , GPS, weather forecasts on demand etc etc but the new fishing opportunities that await us in foreign countries any times over the horizon.
Ultra light, compact tackle and airfares getting cheaper as each day passes has made accessible remote regions of the planet that were only available to the wealthy adventurous fluff chuckers (also known as fly fisherman!) it seemed the only decent rods capable of being packed into your luggage were multi piece Fly rods. Now we have many manufacturers high quality rods available to catch everything no matter what style of fishing takes your fancy, jigging, trolling, casting. This opens up another exciting factor with even more exotic species unheard of by many now accessible. This trip I hope to tangle with the elusive Arapaima and the ultra aggressive Snakehead. It also enables us to book a holiday and sneak a rod or 2 in our luggage, you know....just in case!
We have some exciting events coming up at the club. Our famous Xmas party is looming as the year draws closer to an end and with the bay's water temp increasing means we have an influx of red fish at our doorstep. So we hope to have a social Snapper fishing day in November, details to follow soon. Also lock in February 15 &16 as our BRP Victorian Gamefish Classic will be held once again. This fun and friendly event will be bigger and better than ever. Not to be missed!
Tight lines and screaming ratchets.
