The Victorian Game Fishing Club is a family oriented fishing club with a vision to achieve an environment that will encourage present and future generations of anglers to value and appreciate the benefits of membership of a vibrant game fishing club.
The club was formed almost 40 years ago by a group of men who were keen to try there luck against pelagics that were strictly the domain of the professional angler. With basic equipment, ingenuity and determination they formed the great club we have today.
General meetings take place at the clubrooms, 186 Station St. Edithvale from 7:30pm on the 1st Wednesday of each month with the exception of January.
All are welcome.
Well the season is up & running with some small Yellowfin at Bermagui last weekend on the 1000 fathom line. I believe there was 1 caught out of Narooma last week about 35-40kgs. There are some people heading to Bermagui for the Melbourne Cup week end so we might have some news to report later. The Snapper season has started with good fish already being caught in Westernport up the top end with fish between 4-7kgs. There have been many small schoolies taken off Ricketts Point & some larger fish scattered around over the last week or two. Marcus S caught some nice Snapper in close off Mornington in his canoe. Daniel Ds got a good fish off Ricketts Point in his canoe. Daniel & I went out last Saturday & got some nice fish, 4 schoolies about 2-3kgs in 90 minutes & put back 4 pinkies.
The Tournament Committee has started work on the new season with the Hasting BRP tournament being scheduled for the 7th & 8th February. We are also looking for members who would be interested in heading down to Lakes Entrance in March or April to fish the 100 fathom line along the Canyons. If we could get 6 or more boats it would enable us to work a larger area on the drop off. Potential species to target are Broadbill, Marlin, Yellowfin & later in the year Southern Bluefin Tuna.
We are also looking at having a fun weekend or small comp out of Warrnambool or Port Fairy chasing the Bluefin. Early this year we got nice fish out of Apollo Bay, Warrnambool , Port Fairy & Portland so hopefully it will be the same for 2015. Thommo & Sharon have just come back from Cairns after tagging 6 nice Marlin over 7 days which were between 80-350kgs. Hope to have a story & some photos for the next Berley Slick.
The Christmas party is on the Saturday 6th December so don't forget to contact Santa for the kids.
